ODE Releases Updated School Metrics and Safety Reminders

Dear Coos Bay School District Students and Families,

This morning Governor Brown and ODE Director Colt Gill held a press conference that covered the latest release of the Ready Schools Safe Learners guidance. Within that guidance are the new statewide metrics that are being implemented as of today. The new metrics place our county into a category that will allow for us to gradually implement in-person instruction for our 4th-6th grade students.

Please understand that we are not making any immediate changes to our instructional model. I will be reading through this new guidance and meeting with our regional superintendents on Monday to discuss next moves as a region as we have prioritized being on the same page as a region. With the help of our local health authority, staff, and community input, we will be developing a plan moving forward that will follow the new guidance.

As plans develop, I will keep you all informed so we can adequately prepare for any changes moving forward. Please do not speculate and spread misinformation about what our next steps are as a district. We will have a plan and it will be communicated to all of our staff and community.

Stay Safe, Stay Healthy,

Bryan Trendell
Coos Bay Public Schools
Superintendent
