Dear Coos Bay Schools Families and Community,
The latest two week case numbers were posted late yesterday. Coos County is stable at 72 cases over the two week look-back, which computes to 113 per 100,000 residents. We have maintained this level for the past 3 weeks. We have unfortunately had more cases impacting our schools over the past three weeks. We have had a couple of classroom cohorts and a bus cohort over at Millicoma and Eastside. MHS has had a handful of students need to be quarantined due to a known exposure. Over the weekend we were informed of a bus cohort at Madison and Sunset that had to be quarantined due to a known exposure. We have had no spread of COVID within our schools.
All of these exposures were traced back to community cases. I can’t over emphasize the need to keep up the hard work and effort of practicing good public health protocols. I know it is getting old and many of you are getting fed up. I’d be hard-pressed to find a person who likes to wear a mask all the time, but I want to encourage everyone to not give up and to continue to wear masks, wash hands, and socially distance when required. I also ask that everyone cooperate with Coos Health and Wellness so they can accurately do their job of contact tracing to keep our kids, staff, and each other safe. Case numbers are climbing around our state. We can’t allow that to happen here in our community. We are planning for a much-deserved in-person graduation ceremony at Pete Susick Stadium for our senior class. That can only happen if our county stays out of the extreme risk category. Please help us end this school year on a positive note.
