CDC's New Guidance Will Not Impact Schools this School Year

Dear Coos Bay Schools Families and Community,

Although the CDC has made their statement about face masks, all schools are still under the requirements of the Oregon Department of Education and the Ready Schools Safe Learners guidance. At this time, we are still required to wear face masks in school. If that requirement changes, we will be sure to communicate that to everyone.

Yesterday afternoon, Governor Brown issued a video statement on how this new guidance will be implemented in Oregon. In her statement she shared, "Nothing is changing for schools this school year, and I expect education staff and students to continue to wear masks and physically distance, as outlined in our Ready Schools, Safe Learners guidance." This also applies to all other individuals on school campus, including but not limited to: family members, volunteers, visitors, SROs, and other partners.

Case numbers are continuing to drop in our county and decisions from the national and state level are being made that will help our efforts to start school next fall in a full-time in person format. At this time we are planning for this for the 2021-22 school year.

I will continue to keep you updated on new information. One thing we have learned from this past year is that information changes quickly.

Thank you for your support of Coos Bay Schools!
