      The Coos Bay Schools Community Foundation awarded 42 grants worth $53,236 to programs in Coos Bay Public Schools.  Notifications to successful district-wide Grant recipients were sent last month.

 

       “The real credit for making this event happen goes to the many generous donors in  this community,” explains Nancy Tedder, Foundation President.  “The grants we award provide us with the  opportunity to realize our true goal to support educators and the students they serve.”    

 

      Included in the figure listed above is a substantial grant in the amount of $10,000 from the Judith Ann Mogan Foundation to fund a K-2 district-wide reading program and another $5,000 donation for science, math, and technology programs at Marshfield Junior High.”

 

      Special awards also came from the Helfrich Family, the Kay Lorence Memorial Fund, and the Stan Sweet Memorial Fund.  The grants fund much needed items for Coos Bay students of all ages, including musical instruments, athletic equipment, STEM supplies, and classroom books. 
 
      The Coos Bay Schools Community Foundation was formed during 2007 to promote programs in the arts, academics, activities and athletics for the benefit of the students attending the Coos Bay School District by raising funds through community partnerships.  The Foundation is a community-based, not-for-profit organization separate from the Coos Bay School District.
