Wrestlers make history as basketball playoffs begin

One wrestler for the Marshfield wrestling team made school history over the weekend.

Mawdy Velasquez finished fourth in the girls championship, becoming the first Marshfield girls wrestler to place in the OSAA state championship.

On the boys side, Jonathan Calvert also earned a podium finish with a fourth-place finish.

While the wrestling season wrapped up over the weekend, the basketball postseason is just getting started.

The boys basketball team is in La Grande today and will take on La Grande High School in a play-in game that begins at 4:30 p.m.

In the Pirates win, they will advance to the Sweet 16, with a game either Friday or Saturday. An opponent has not been determined.

The Marshfield girls closed out the regular season over the weekend and have already earned a spot in the Sweet 16.
