Arnie Roblan was born in Port Angeles, Washington. After completing his education, he moved to Coos Bay in 1972 with his wife.
His wife of 53 years, Arlene, spent 26 years with the Coos Bay School District and retired as Principal of Madison School in 2013. They have spent the last 49 years on the Oregon Coast where they raised their three children. All three attended Coos Bay schools and graduated from Marshfield High School. Arnie and Arlene also have two beautiful grandchildren.
Arnie first earned his Bachelor of Arts degree from the University of Washington and Master of Arts degree from the University of Oregon. He then began his lengthy career teaching mathematics at Marshfield High School in 1972. He held the positions of Dean of Students, Assistant Principal, and finally Principal of Marshfield High School in 1989. Soon after retiring from his principalship in 2004 Arnie was elected to Oregon State Legislature. Arnie has represented District 09 as an Oregon State Representative from 2005 to 2013 and District 05 as an Oregon State Senator from 2013 to 2021.
Through the years Arnie has been a driving force behind legislation that moved Oregon forward on critically important issues. In 2018, the Legislative Leadership tasked Senator Roblan with studying K-12 education and make recommendation on how to improve Oregon’s public education system. With his bipartisan committee, he traveled nearly 3,000 miles and visited 77 schools to listen directly to students, teachers, families and community members. With the passage of the Student Success Act, and as part of his lifelong commitment to fighting for education, Sen. Roblan was able to ensure that Oregon students were ready and able to learn during their educational path.
In his free time, Arnie enjoys reading, carpentry, bricklaying, and cooking.

The Coos Bay School District is pleased to welcome Dr. Maidie Rosengarten, Ed.D., as a new board member, with her term beginning July 1st, 2025.
Dr. Rosengarten brings a wealth of experience and expertise to the board. She currently serves as a Policy Analyst for the Department of Early Learning and Care. Her extensive career in education also includes over a decade each as a K–8 teacher, faculty member, and early educator. Dr. Rosengarten's deep commitment to student success and equity will be an invaluable asset to our board and the broader Coos Bay community.
Coos Bay Public Schools are part of who Kim Brick is. Her dad graduated from Marshfield High School, she did the same, and each of her seven children have gone through the Coos Bay School system.
As a professional, Brick has spent her career working in nonprofits and volunteering for community organizations. So, when there was an opening on the school board in 2018, she applied for the position. She was later elected to a full term on the board in 2019.
In high school, Brick became pregnant with her first child and attended the teen parent program and alternative education programs to graduate on time. Her principal then, Arnie Roblan, now serves with Brick on the school board.
Brick currently serves as the chair of the school board and has become active in advocating for Coos Bay Schools in a larger capacity. She recently became the first Coos Bay representative on the Oregon School Board Members of Color Caucus and was elected to serve as secretary. Brick is also a state advocate for special education with the Oregon Department of Education.
She also volunteers with the Star of Hope and the Bay Area Chamber of Commerce’s Leadership Coos Steering Committee.
When she has free time, she enjoys spending time with her family and homesteading.

Term Kevin Dubisar has made volunteering for youth his passion in life.
In addition to serving on the Coos Bay School Board, Dubisar is a coach for youth sports in the community, coaching up to six teams at a time every year.
Dubisar founded Coos County Youth Sports in 2019 and ran for the school board for the first time the same year. He said moving from volunteering for children in athletics and serving on the school board was a natural move.
The Coos Bay School District is also thrilled to welcome Dr. Derek Rogalsky as a new board member, with his term beginning July 1st, 2025.
Dr. Rogalsky, a General and Bariatric Surgeon at North Bend Medical Center, brings a fresh and vital healthcare perspective to our board. His dedication to service and community health will provide a unique viewpoint as we work together to support the well-being and success of every student in our district.
Term Diane Johnson is serving her second term as a member of the Coos Bay School Board.
The director of community based services for Star of Hope, Johnson has spent her career helping people in need. That role allowed her to see the value public education can play for students and families in Coos Bay.
Johnson has children in Coos Bay schools, which added to her interest in serving on the school board.
